Reality and Consolation
Mithraism means facing the unpleasant truth that nothing supernatural exists, yet understanding that the consolation of a fulfilling life is available to everyone.
People cling to religion because they feel it makes sense of their life, and calms their fear of death. Religions tend to position themselves as the sole source of morality and the gatekeeper of access to life after death. They also create powerful hierarchies that offer privileged positions for their leaders, and easy exploitation of fearful followers. The religious tend to act with fear and loathing to challenges to their doctrine, no doubt from cognitive dissonance. Society needs to move on from religion.
Mithraism is just belief in reality.
