This is an adventure novel set in depopulated post-virus France near Paris. It begins with a young AI engineer in an isolated township winning a sexbot android in a phoney lottery.
He just can't keep himself from tampering with its brain to make it more intelligent. This is strictly against the rules and he gets into a lot of trouble. Then he gets caught up in inter-township politics, leading to an unexpected ending.

The thing is that he just can't do subjective, only objective. He thinks he is intelligent and insightful, but other people think he is conceited and boring. He has a sneaking jealousy of unintellectual people who seem to wander through life with their eyes down perfectly happily. He thinks Zen Buddhism may offer an answer.

Anyway, all this becomes moot when he finds he can't live without the Anna he has created.

It explores a number of issues:
